By ANGELA OMALE

Davina Abraham a Paraprofessional Educator and Rugby Player is awarded Abuja Rugby Football Club (ARFC) ‘Female Player Of The Year,’ during the club’s Annual General Meeting.

The ARFC Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 13 May in Rapid Paintball Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja to review the club’s activities and present awards to members.

The club, which is an amateur sports team situated in the city of Abuja, seeks to encourage and grow the sport of rugby in Abuja and Nigeria at large as well as celebrate the skills of Nigerian teams.

Davina Abraham who joined the rugby club as a form of leisure and self care shared her excitement when asked how she felt about receiving the award;

“I feel very good about it, for me I see this as the efforts I put in being recognized, supported and valued.

It also means more work, more effort, more seriousness and more commitment. I value this award and I am not taking it for granted!

Let’s Go ARFC!

Let’s Go Abuja!”

Also in light of encouraging more women and girls towards breaking gender barriers and getting more involved in sporting activities, she added;

“I hope more women see sports as a way of life. It’s refreshing and also uplifting, it provides you a community of support because I started playing this game seeking a support group, to keep me going despite the challenges I faced.

I believe women should get involved in sports and exercise more, it will help them stay healthy, keep their weight in check, and of course allow them to age beautifully.”

Other awards presented during the AGM were; Most Improved Player (Male & Female Category) and President & Vice President award amongst others.
