In response to recent claims made by the Nigerian Concord, alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF) Senator George Akume to reconcile with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to prevent his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the office of the SGF has issued a statement refuting such assertions.
The report, which surfaced in a relatively unknown media outlet, has been dismissed by the SGF’s office as unsubstantiated and part of a broader agenda by desperate opposition elements aimed at destabilizing the APC in Benue State.
According to the statement issued by Terrence Kuanum, Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the SGF, there has been no directive from President Tinubu to SGF Akume regarding reconciliation efforts with Governor Alia. Kuanum emphasized that such claims are indicative of a smear campaign orchestrated by certain individuals with vested interests.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted SGF Akume’s commitment to upholding party loyalty, discipline, and inclusivity within the APC, as endorsed by President Tinubu. SGF Akume, a prominent figure in North Central Nigeria, remains steadfast in his dedication to fostering unity and peace within the party.
The SGF’s office reiterated Akume’s stance on maintaining the unity of the APC in Benue State, as demonstrated by his recent peace meeting with Governor Alia at the Tor Tiv’s palace. Kuanum urged the public to disregard the fabricated report and cautioned against lending credence to baseless allegations.
The statement further urged opposition politicians to cease their efforts to undermine the APC and instead focus on revitalizing their own political endeavors. The public is advised to exercise discernment and refrain from being swayed by misleading information propagated by unreliable sources.
