Benue APC Organises Emergency Congress

BENUE APC HOLDS SPECIAL CONGRESS IN MAKURDI

… Endorses President Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State on 3rd March, 2024 held a Special Congress meeting at the residence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Dr. George Akume in Makurdi, Benue State.

According to Dan Morgan Ihomun, State Publicity Secretary All Progressives Congress (APC), said that the purpose of the meeting among other issues includes the filling of vacant positions created in the State EXCO. The meeting was attended by Members of the State Executive Committee of the party, Members of the Benue APC National Assembly Caucus, members of the state house of Assembly, APC Local Government party chairmen , delegates across the 23 Local Government chapters of the party, APC ward Chairmen, critical stakeholders and APC members across the state.

Stressing that candidates were nominated in accordance with the constitution of the party and endorsed to fill the vacancies within the state working committee of the party with the approval of Congress.

The positions included the following,
The State Secretary of the party, Hon. Donald Amokaha Gboughor, who hails from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, he replaced Rt. Hon. Paul Biam who has been appointed Chief of Staff to Gov. Alia, Assistant State woman Leader Hon. Margaret Adom (Vandeikya), replaced Hon. Mrs Member Dekera who has been appointed SSA to Gov. Alia on Beautification, State Legal Officer, Barr. Matthew T Alyebo (Makurdi) replaced Barr. Fidelis Mnyim who has been appointed Attorney General , Commissioner for Justice and Civic Order Benue State, State Assistant Welfare Secretary Hon. Ijirbee Iorkusu (Tarka) replaced Hon Alu Jimin who is late, . Those nominated and endorsed to fill positions at the Local Government chapters of party included Hon. Ushahenba Ityavkase Ushongo Local Government APC Chairman,Hon. Asua Mwakyoga Caleb For Konshisha Local Government and Hon. Oge Otumala for Oju Local Government.

Elder Akange Audu, Prof. Enyi, Prince Simon Aondoana, Prof Joseph Utsev, Hon. Mathias Byuan, Princess Awuese Torhee, Sen. Dr Titus Zam, Sen. Emmanuel Memga Udende in one voice unanimously pledged their unalloyed support to the SGF for continously providing leadership to the party in the state attracting electoral victories and also influencing juicy Federal appointments to indigenes of the state and urged all party faithfuls to remain steadfast and unwavering in their support to the party both at the local, State and Federation at large.

While addressing the Congress, the Executive Director, Housing, Finance and Accounts, Federal Housing Authority, Dr. Mathias Byuan lamented the total neglect of the party in Benue State by the Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia. He wondered why a governor would neglect the very people who gave him a platform to contest and worked day and night to see him emerge victorious and adviced the governor to turn a new leaf in the overall interest of the state.

Elder Prince Simon Aondoana implored party faithfuls to remain committed to the party. He prayed God to grant the SGF long life in good health so that he will continue to mould the party and lead same to enviable heights. The political icon further asked party faithfuls to remain one united family and not be swayed by unscrupulous elements whose only interest is to ruin the APC.

Senator representing Benue North East, Sen. Emmanuel Memga Udende and Sen. Elder Jack Gyado moved separate motions passing vote of confidence on President Bola Almed Tinubu GCFR, Sen. Dr. George Akume and the State Chairman of the party, Comrade Austin Agada. This was seconded by Senator Representing Benue North West, Chief Titus Tartenger Zam who rained eulogies on the president saying, “It’s only a few months in the life of the Tinubu Renewed Hope administration and the president has done credibly well on his campaign promises particularly to the people of Benue State. Only problem we have is the fact that since Gov. Alia emerged as governor, the APC in Benue State has not seen peace nor sleep.” Sen. Zam admonished the governor to return to his party and shun those advising him otherwise. The motion was unanimously adapted by the Congress.

Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Comrade Austin Agada welcomed all Stakeholders to the meeting and pledged to sustain his inclusive style of governance which brings everyone on board to guarantee the success of the party at all levels. He said the party remains an indivisible entity and no one should see his or herself as above the party. Agada pledged his unalloyed loyalty to the leaders of the APC in Nigeria and in Benue State, President Bola Tinubu and Sen. Dr. George Akume respectively.

State Women Leader of the party, Princess Awuese Torhee stated that the party in Benue state will continue to remain United behind Senator George Akume as it’s leader describing him as the back bone of the party. She urged those bent on dividing the party to jettison the idea as it is an impossible task to accomplish within the APC in Benue state.

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev added his voice by urging party members to draw to the party’s source of strength and stability, Dr. George Akume. Utsev urged party men and women to remain steadfast and unshaken by the wild waves the party is experiencing at the moment in the state, promising that calm is coming back and will arrive early. He pledged his loyalty to the president of Nigeria and to the SGF, both of whom he described as Beacons of Hope.

In a communique at the end of the meeting, the Benue APC Endorsed President Bola Ahmed TINUBU’s economic reforms urging him to sustain the good work he has started for the country as people of Benue State will help see the implementation of those policies even beyond 2027.
