Mrs Daniel Ochege Comfort, the mother of Favour Daniel , who scored the only goal for the Golden Eaglet of Nigeria in their opening game against the Zambian U17 national team at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria is in cloud nine, not only because her son scored the winning goal but Nigeria picking the maximum points.
According to Mrs Daniel Ochege, her son scored few minutes after she prayed to God for her son to score.
Daniel struck past the Zambian goalkeeper from a goalmouth scramble fourteen minutes to the end of the game.
“I was really happy because it’s my first time in a viewing center and I came to see my son representing the country live on the screen. The joy was all over me and before Favour scored, I already prayed that God should let my son score which happened a few minutes after I said that prayer.
Asked about Favor’s upbringing, the elated mother said, “It was really really tough because the boy was from a poor family and he never let that bothered him because of the love he has for the game. I can’t even explain it.
“Favour is loyal, humble and dedicated to the game of football from his childhood that was what prompted me to support him and today I am grateful to God for what Favour has become and what he will become in the future,” she stated.
Favour’s strike gave Nigeria all three points that opened the campaign in Group B.
It was coach Nduka Ugbade’s boys that dominated for the larger part of the game at Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui.
The Golden Eaglets will be up against Morocco today before they play South Africa in their final match of Group B on Saturday.
Two-time African champions Nigeria are hoping for a third crown in Algeria while also having their eyes on qualifying for the World Cup.
