Chelsea are set to lose a number of senior players in the summer transfer window as Todd Boehly looks to trim down the squad ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival as manager
Ahead of the Blues’ final Premier League fixture of the season, football.london takes a look at the eight players that could leave Stamford Bridge this summer as Frank Lampard prepares to say goodbye once again with his caretaker role set to end this weekend.
Mason Mount
Mount is entering the final 12 months of his current deal at Chelsea and rival Premier League clubs are preparing to make a move for the England international. The 24-year-old has rejected a number of contract proposals from the Blues with the club failing to meet his wage demands.
Manchester United are said to be Mount’s preferred destination if he does leave Chelsea, but Liverpool and Arsenal remain in the race for his signature. The Blues are set to demand a fee in the region of £55million if they cannot agree a new deal with the English midfielder, with recent reports suggesting United are unwilling to meet that price.
Mount may be involved in the matchday squad this afternoon after Lampard revealed he is close to making a return to the pitch.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Aubameyang has not enjoyed a happy return to the Premier League after signing for Chelsea last summer. A reunion with Thomas Tuchel looked to be a brilliant move by the Blues but just days later, the German was sacked and Aubameyang was left out of favour under Graham Potter.
The Gabonese striker looks set to be moved on this summer after a poor 2022/23 campaign.
Cesar Azpilicueta
Azpilicueta is entering that last 12 months of his current deal at Stamford Bridge and reports have linked him with a move away from Chelsea this summer. The Spaniard was close to joining Barcelona last summer but opted to stay in west London and sign a new two-year deal.
Pochettino’s arrival could help persuade Azpilicueta to stay on another year and leave on a free transfer next summer, but his lack of minutes and injury problems this term could be a sign that his time at Chelsea is almost over.
Edouard Mendy
Both Mendy and Kepa could be sold this summer as Chelsea look to solve their goalkeeper problem ahead of next season. Pochettino is understood to want a new goalkeeper signing with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.
There has been little progress regarding talks over a new contract for Mendy and his drop in form could see him be sold this summer.
Hakim Ziyech
The former Ajax man looks set to find a new challenge this summer after being denied a January exit to Paris Saint-Germain at the 11th hour. Ziyech was closing in on a loan deal to join PSG but the paperwork was not sent through before the transfer deadline, forcing him to stay in west London.
Christian Pulisic
Another player that is likely to play his last game for the Blues is Pulisic after a torrid 2022/23 campaign. The American winger is attracting interest from Italy and Germany ahead of the summer transfer window and he looks destined to leave Chelsea after four years.
The 24-year-old has failed to establish himself as a regular starter and the Blues are looking to cash in on the winger this summer.
Kepa Arrizabalaga
Kepa replaced Mendy as Chelsea’s starting goalkeeper under Potter but his future remains uncertain heading into the summer. The Spaniard has failed to prove he can perform at a world-class level that is required to challenge for trophies and win Premier League titles.
Kepa has endured a difficult career at Chelsea and now looks set to be moved on this summer.
