#MrYakubuChallenge Youths Express Displeasure over Election results
Following the release of the song titled ‘Mr Yakubu’ by rapper, Folarin Falana, commonly known as Falz and Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, also known as Vector, an open verse challenge inviting and permitting Nigerians to create their own versions of the song is trending on social media with the hashtag #MrYakubuChallenge.
The song’s music video has gathered over half a million YouTube views in five days. The lyrics to the song criticizes the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu over alleged manipulation of the 2023 presidential election results. The opening lyrics sings “Mr Yakubu! ẹ ma n se bi fraudster” which translates “Mr Yakubu don’t act like a fraudster”.
Thousands of netizens including celebrities like Bimbo Ademoye and famous artistes like Oral P, BILS and Vtek have created their own versions of the song where they expressed their displeasure over the process and outcome of the 2023 general elections.
