We are still here: Wales’ 64-year World Cup wait

Words Ben Grounds Interviews Geraint Hughes

It was an Oscar-worthy speech which garnered upwards of 5.5 million views in less than 11 hours on Twitter.

A passion-filled monologue aimed at the Welsh football team in September, still two months out from the Qatar World Cup.

The comedian Romesh Ranganathan, presenting A League of Their Own, knew of his special guest’s patriotism for his country, but even he felt utterly moved by what followed.

This is only the second time Wales have qualified for the World Cup, and their last outing was in 1958. Inevitably, they have been drawn in the same group as England, who they face on Tuesday November 29 at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
