The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Enugu State chapter has inaugurated new executives to pilot its affairs for the next three years.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at NUJ press Centre, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state enjoined members of NAWOJ to ensure principles of fairness, balance and accuracy in their reportage.
Represented by his Special Adviser to on Information, Steve Oruruo, the Governor who harped on promotion of image of the country said “the women journalists has the power to promote and rescue the country from collapsing through their reportage.
He urged them to ensure that they report events by been factual in their reportage.
The Governor thereby reiterated his administration commitment to uplift the living standard of women in the state saying “we will continue to support women programs for better society.
In her address, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Com Ngozi Ngene assured to unite all members of the association adding “this is the beginning of the fruitful effort to unite us under one umbrella of this great association.
She said “we all know that a woman is always the victim of circumstances, war, flood, disaster and most especially domestic violence which affect life negatively in all ramifications and this is the reason NAWOJ formed coalition within different environment to address issues that affect women and children in all spheres of life.
“NAWOJ Enugu state is willing to partner with individuals, Corporate bodies, non governmental organizations and government at all levels on programs that impact lives in our society especially on women, youth and children,” Com Ngene said.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Occasion, Steve Oruruo urged the women Journalists to always ensure to principles of good journalism by reporting accurately saying women have the will to influence future of this nation.
“The women have huge task before them in rebuilding our nation, when this is done, the equality we are looking for, will be given to us,” he said
The newly inaugurated executives includes, Com Ngozi Ngene, chairperson, Com Amaka Uchennadiukwu, Vice Chairperson, Com Ogochukwu Chukwudi, Secretary.
