#Assault: Retired AIG Blasts Police Authority For Seun Kuti’s Attack On Officer

A retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Ambrose Aisabor has reacted to the assault of a Police Officer by Seun Kuti, son of late Afro beat legend, Fela Kuti, in Lagos State.

Aisabor, in a chat with JournalNG, decried that the Nigerian Police Force has degraded itself before members of the public, hence Officers are being assaulted on a daily basis without the intervention of the authority.

“Nigerians should blame the police authorities and not Kuti, because I believe the police man assaulted was not the only officer there when the incident happened”.

“Kuti may also have police escorts and guards in his home. Many of our musicians have police escorts and guards in their homes. Why giving police personnel to these musicians? Is it because many of them are very rich and see themselves as more important than other Nigerians?” he questioned.

“I have always advised police authorities to stop deploying their personnel to charlatans and other people that are not supposed to be given police protection. Money is not everything,” he said.

He added that, aside the assaulted officer, other members of the patrol team involved in the incident should be tried and punished for cowardice.

“What did the other officers do when one of their personnel was assaulted in their presence? They were watching and could not arrest a single person or were they afraid because seun is late Fela Anikulapo’s son”.

The former AIG, urged the police authority to address the issue with earnestness, so as to teach others who may want to assault other officers.

“If this case is not properly handled by the police, worst things will continue to happen to police personnel in the country. A stitch in time saves nine,”  he added.
